Poetry of the week – contrasts

Broken Sun
I am the darkness that envelopes you.
I fold my letter neatly, tuck it firmly inside,
Before resolve’s forgotten, sending off into the light,
To salted sunshine and air that weighs heavier on your lungs.
I’ll sit in my frozen darkness, unmoving as I write lies to try to fix
The blinding truth, that hurt your eyes and scorched your mind,
That tore your insides and made you cough until you were dry.
I alone knew the truth, I, lonely, kept it from you,
Waiting for the cover of my darkness, to enlighten you.
Now I’m struggling to mend your shining soul with my dark silken lies,
Silken ties that only pull you closer, as I try not to pull you apart,
Whispering words of truth while writing lies in the dark.
You’d have done well never to have given me your heart.
We are not the same, you and I, not because you’re black and I’m white,
But because you soul is broken, but sparkling, and mine is black as night.

“For you, my geek.”
Bleed
You are
A cyberspace loner,
The misfit Facebook-er
Watching the screen for
The him or her, even you don’t know,
And you click, “Friends on Chat”,
Tap and the window comes on
But there’s a blank space
Where the words are
Supposed to be and
They’re not coming out.
There you are bleeding
Words loves hates
Out your ears nose mouth
Spilling out of you in
Trickles and floods
And all you can say
Is that you’re sorry that
You aren’t trying to be
Funny anymore that
None of it’s a joke cause’
You’re bleeding
Your heart out
Your eyes and ears
And the pores in your skin,
Every cell in there screaming
Help, please
I’m bleeding, you’re
Bleeding bytes and
Pixels and bytes
Of smileys and exclamation
Marks, histories of
Convos in the dark and I’m
Somewhere in sunny Fiji
On a dry hammock reading
Thinking it’s all bloody
Pathetic, really
So please, if you would kindly
Shut it,
I’m trying to read.

Parallel worlds
Resplendent green landscapes dominated by enormous supermarkets
Fragile historical buildings tarnished by graffiti
An ornate antique vase marred by a hairline crack
An almost clear blue sky thwarted by a single, stubborn cloud
Vast stretches of sea blighted by other people’s rubbish
Ninety minutes of brilliance spoiled by one moment of madness
A brand new football kit ruined by the realities of the opening game
Good intentions ultimately unfulfilled
Yet there are mountains still standing defiantly
Deep, dark lakes that refuse to be damaged
Ancient churches weathering the challenges of passing time
Brand new structures setting new standards of excellence
People who haven’t forgotten the simple pleasures
But dare to dream, however far away their aspirations may seem
Those with drive and ambition burning as strong as ever
Resiliently, determinedly, unwaveringly holding on
To what they want, what they believe, what they think is right.

Untitled
Light, dark
Sun, moon
Girls, boys
Man, woman
Love, hate
Life, death
Up, down
In, out
Over, under
Soft, hard
Black, white
Thin, thick
Tall, small
War, peace
This world has many opposites

Sonata number 8
While the leaves weep
While the bugs sleep
Away goes the gust
Which gently thrusts
Trees into more
Obliging statures
Ready for the strong
To take the lead
And watch the sap bleed
Clutching saws
Crouched in fours
They slide their knife
Inside, drain life
And relish as
They perish
And amongst cat calls
The tree falls

“Bleed” is amazing.
I’ll tell him from you, he’s pretty damn good!
“parallel Worlds” and Sonata number 8 are incredible
Thank you so much! I’ll tell Jamie you said that.
