Champions League quarter-final predictions

March 26, 2012 Posted by Errol Waters under sport
No Comments

There will be two legs in each of the confirmed fixtures: a home leg and an away leg. My predictions are based only on the first match.

Tuesday 27 March

Apoel Nicosia vs Real Madrid (19:45)

Apoel have surprised everyone by getting this far, and Real Madrid will have to be cautious when facing them. I do believe the Spanish outfit will have the best of the game, yet this is the first leg and a home match for the Cypriots, so I fancy a draw is on the cards.

Prediction: 1-1

Benfica vs Chelsea (19:45)

Benfica are a strong attacking side, capable of ripping up defences with ease. Chelsea have been shaky in games this season, so this could prove a tough game for the blues over in Portugal. With Torres finally scoring, could it be his time to shine against the only representatives of Portugal (Spain’s rival nation)? Only time will tell.

Prediction: 2-2

Wednesday 28th March

AC Milan vs Barcelona (19:45)

This will definitely be the pick of all the fixtures. AC Milan have been a top quality side, and Barcelona have been even better. Both have players that this season have been formidable in front of goal, so as long as Messi and Ibrahimovic are fit this should be a good encounter. Unless, of course, Milan can’t stop Barcelona from using their sensational passing / possession technique, which generally sees their opposition hardly get into the game.

Prediction: 2-3

Marseille vs Bayern Munich (19:45)

Marseille are not having the best run of form, and Bayern are steady when away. This shouldn’t be too difficult a game for the Germans – unless the French side dig deep it could be quite a simple win.

Prediction: 1-3
