Not bad – no perfect scores, but five correct results which is pleasing. One thing to note for my next set of predictions is that I seem to overshoot when it comes to how many goals will be scored; if only the games really were that exciting!
The main talking point will of course be the two games involving the Manchester sides, in which the blue half lost a fantastic game to Swansea who continued to perform outstandingly at home and the red half (the ones most people will want to win the league) managed to claw three points to place themselves at the top by one point.
Anyway, on to the part you’ve been looking forward to: my predictions!
Tuesday 13th March
Liverpool vs Everton (20:00)
In their last games, Liverpool lost to Sunderland while Everton managed to beat Tottenham. Now granted, this game is at Anfield, so the match should go in favour of the reds in this Merseyside derby, but who wouldn’t bet against Everton causing another upset? As it happens, I wouldn’t. Liverpool will be too strong and will finally start to show their class again.
Prediction: 2-1
Saturday 17th March
Fulham vs Swansea (15:00)
Fulham have quite good home form and Swansea’s away form isn’t so great, but even taking this into account I think Swansea are more than justified in thinking they can win this game, especially after their last round win against Manchester City. Brendan Rodgers, Swansea’s current coach, has done fantastically, crafting an attractive, strong side that seems to be able to hold its own at the highest level, and that will definitely be too technically strong for Fulham.
Prediction: 0-1
Wigan vs West Brom (15:00)
Frankly, the most exciting thing about this game is that both team names start with the letter “W”. This is remarkable and suggests (because of its position in the alphabet) that both these clubs should be near the bottom of the table by the end of the season. Need I say much more? Probably, as no doubt one of the six people who support Wigan will end up reading this in the hope that someone can instil some optimism that they won’t relegate. Which they will. Hopefully Rodallega and Moses will have a good game and make this enjoyable; West Brom on their day are also capable of playing reasonably well. So fingers crossed for it to be a good one! Which I doubt it will.
Prediction: 1-1
Sunday 18th March
Wolves vs Man Utd (13:30)
Wolves have an awful home record, conceding on average over two goals a game. Man Utd on the other hand have scored over two goals on average per away game, so this encounter promises to be a high scoring one. Not a great day to be a Wolves fan, I predict, so make sure you are busy looking after your mother (it is Mother’s Day after all) and you aren’t spending too much time paying attention to getting mashed by the Red Devils.
Prediction: 0-3
Newcastle vs Norwich (16:00)
Here, 6th face 12th in what should be an enjoyable game. Both clubs are capable of playing good football, and Newcastle are a real threat with their two “Dembas,” so this should be a good one for the neutral. A win for Newcastle here would see them put pressure on Chelsea in 5th so they will be gunning for a good result.
Prediction: 3-2
