Premier League preview: 20-21 March

March 19, 2012 Posted by Errol Waters under sport

Before I go on with this article I just want to say how much I hope Fabrice Muamba pulls through after his cardiac arrest on Saturday during Bolton’s FA cup game against Tottenham. He is an inspiration to the game and is supposedly one of the nicest players around, so there is a lot support for this promising 23-year-old English player. Good luck Fabrice; my thoughts are with you and your family.

Here are the results of the last round of premier league games and my predictions for their outcomes:

Game

Actual Score

Prediction

Liverpool vs Everton

3-0

2-1

Fulham vs Swansea

0-3

0-1

Wigan vs West Brom

1-1

1-1

Wolves vs Man Utd

0-5

0-3

Newcastle vs Norwich

1-0

3-2

As you can see, I am clearly a genius and really should bet for a living – five out of five correct outcomes (with one of those being a perfect score) is pretty good going! And now that you can see my predictions are reliable, here is what you are waiting for: the next lot of match predictions.

Tuesday 20th March

Aston Villa vs Bolton (P:P)

Owing to the tragic incident involving Bolton’s Fabrice Muamba, this game has been postponed to a new, not yet arranged date.

Blackburn vs Sunderland (20:00)

Blackburn have been shocking this season under Kean, whereas Sunderland have turned their season around completely under their new management. Although this might suggest Sunderland have the upper hand, the combination of a mid-week fixture and a previous FA cup weekend means Sunderland players may well be tired while the Blackburn squad will be suitably rested and ready for the tie. However, despite the fatigue that will obviously be affecting the away side I still fancy that they will continue their great run of form with a win here.

Prediction: 0-1

Wednesday 21st March

Man City vs Chelsea (19:45)

Man City are now second in the title race, and their players will be keen to that change back to the way it was for the majority of the season. The fact they are no longer in Europe will also allow them to solely divert all their attention to the league. Chelsea have had a good run recently under their new caretaker manager, but they have been quite inconsistent for the majority of the season and are still taking part in two other important competitions. I therefore think Man City will convincingly crush Chelsea in a rather one-sided game.

Prediction: 2-0

Tottenham vs Stoke (19:45)

Third in the league, Tottenham really need a win here in order to stay ahead of Arsenal, but it won’t be easy. Though Stoke’s style of play may not be pleasing to the eye and may not be “the norm,” it has seen them establish themselves as a premier league side and has gained them get 36 points this season. A tough game for Tottenham, but I believe they will simply want this more.

Prediction: 2-1

Everton vs Arsenal (20:00)

Both teams here will want the three points, and Arsenal’s players will be refreshed from their break from competitive fixtures. Everton will be disappointed to have only managed a draw in the FA cup against Sunderland, having completely dominated the fixture, and so will be wanting to get a win soon. Will Arsenal be the team that they next get one against? The last premiership fixture between these teams ended 1-0 to Arsenal in a game that the Gunners deserved to win – Moyes’ men will be keen to forget this loss, and will aim to dig deep to get a win.

Prediction: 1-3

QPR vs Liverpool (20:00)

QPR are in the bottom three now, and a win against Liverpool could put them up to 16th. With the players they have (who in my opinion should not be bottom three) and their manager (Mark Hughes), they definitely have enough to beat the reds here at home, but Liverpool have won their last two games – one of which was a 3-0 drubbing of their bitter rivals, Everton – and won’t make the task easy. Additionally, Liverpool’s team seem to be working well together at the moment and Suarez is on top form. Everything seems to point to a Liverpool away win, but for some reason I think a draw is the likely outcome. Am I mad?

Prediction: 2-2
