Video Games – a violent menace?

videogame

I love video games, despite not owning an Xbox or any other assorted games console – I have in the past owned a console, just not right this minute. I brother and myself got our first serious game – for the play station – in 2004 – age eight, we got a couple of games for Christmas our favourite of which was Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.  It should be noted for my parents benefit that we bellowed for San Andreas, but it was decidedly too violent. Vice City however, had been what we will call “product tested” by our 13-year-old friend from up the street and our uncle, who said it wasn’t too inappropriate. And so we tucked in. Being excited… more

Man vs Food?

A lot has been going on in the news recently, the pope resigning, a meteor crashing into Russia, horse meat found in beef . I read the news everyday but recently despite everything that has been going off I can’t help opening the Guardian home page seeing the headlines and thinking: Who gives a damn? I have had this thought an unreasonable amount but it was prompted from a single headline “Russian meteor could have hit UK” – it didn’t, so why the heck the heck was this written about? Who decided that this was a more important piece of news than the actual NEWS? I get very worked up about the news and generally rant as much as I… more

The Wright Stuff

Have you ever considered what life  might be like if you were completely unburdened by responsibility? Have you imagined what exploits your almost limitless freedom might facilitate? Perhaps you have, though most of us can only dream of such things. For the benefit of those currently subjugated to employment, education or daily hygiene rituals, I shall attempt to recreate in prose the myriad unique experiences infused into the lives of we happy few who can boast such independence. I can think of no finer way to begin than with the recounting of all the  exquisite delights that daytime television has lavished upon me. Ostensibly the only program featured on Channel Five that isn’t NCIS or one of its many siblings, the somewhat… more

Aeroplane nightmares and how to deal with them

If you’ve ever travelled by plane then the likelihood is you were faced with at least one of the following inconveniences. I think every plane journey that has ever been inflicted upon me by my desire to visit absolutely everywhere I can has been overshadowed by one disastrous circumstance or unfortunate incident or another, and with hindsight these situations are moderately amusing. At the time, however, when stuck at 30,000 feet with a plane full of equally tired and irritable fellow passengers, the entertainment value of these situations doesn’t rate quite as highly on the scale. At the time of writing this I am sitting in a 6/10 comfortable “economy comfort” seat with quite a lot of leg space and… more

Abort, Retry, Fail? 1-8: Be more careful

I can’t decide whether or not I like that shading style. I’ll make up my mind at some point. Also, Sep, Fran and Amy return to the fold in glorious fashion. I felt it was time to include them again. I’m not sure about Nathan, but if someone ripped one of my comic books – if I ever own any, which I intend to – I would probably commit murder. Yes, I am that geeky. more

Nathan finally re-appears! Woo-hoo! The real-life version has been threatening harm on me if he didn’t come back into the series soon, so I slipped him in there. Also, this comic took far too long to draw. Apparently it takes only the slightest bit of heat before I stop being able to draw and lose all motor skills. Never again! more

The shading has returned. I plan to have a play around with styles of shading, because I don’t exactly like it in this one, but I was close to missing the deadline and I don’t want the TSR Death Squads hunting me down. As a side note, if you haven’t watched it, definitely catch The Walking Dead TV series. If I were you, I’d watch both seasons. It started out well, but in the second series it really hit a higher level and improved greatly. If you’re looking for a zombie-orientated show, definitely look for this one. more

My oath is broken: I failed to post last week. Woe betide me; I think I’ve been targeted by the TSR Rapid Response Death Squad for Missed Submissions. Luckily, I know some dirt on the people behind this organisation, so they can’t afford to try to have me eliminated. My life stays secure for now! Two things: Dark Knight Rises was awesome and I recommend everyone go see it, and Saints Row: The Third is possibly the craziest game I have ever played. Ever. Any game where you can beat a giant to death with a big floppy dildo-bat while wearing a gimp-suit and giant rabbit head deserves to be played by all. more

Picture this: it’s a warm Tuesday evening and I’m relaxing in the bath with a nice book. (Okay – don’t picture it too much. Just enough to get the gist of the situation.) All of a sudden the phone rings. You might think that the normal reaction here would be to either a) ignore it, and stare determinedly at the words on the page until the noise goes away, or b) to frantically run downstairs in a towel and answer it, leaving wet footprints everywhere and, in accordance with Sod’s Law, picking the phone up a nanosecond after it stops ringing. You’d think these were the only two choices. No. Instead, I opt for c) say a naughty word very loudly.… more

Suffice to say, I’m very much geared up for The Dark Knight Rises next week. Should be awesome! I would like to point out that I am not adverse to Robin myself, and I think that if Nolan were to include him in a movie it would be awesome. But not that kid who plays Joffrey. I hate that kid. more
