blank paper

Have you found yourself panicking about a deadline a few times too often? Ever unsure where to start with a massive workload? Do you just never have any time? Yeah, we all know how that feels. Sometimes, as boring as it sounds, we all just need a bit of organisation in our lives. After all, if you’re organised about things then there’s room for more spontaneous fun too, because you won’t be stressing about that looming deadline and considering pulling that all-nighter (don’t do it; all-nighters are not a good idea). There are a few things that you can do to make yourself a bit more organised and more able to manage time effectively, but it’s easy to fall out… more

Chaos and organisation

I don’t know about you, but my family, when we’re all together, can often be the epitome of chaos. It doesn’t help that we’re all a bit insane and a lot of the time we just tend to improvise when it comes to, well, doing things. Now, I don’t know if you know this, dear reader, but I am a little obsessive when it comes to planning and organising things, so being a part of my family often drives me insane. I do often wish that they would put more thought into plans… tragic but true. There’s rarely a day where I’m not organising something or someone for some event or other, so here are my top tips on keeping… more

Tips for shopping with a student discount

Discounts

Being a student is one of the only times in life when you’re actually encouraged to spend less money and make use of your student discount. In fact, the only other time in life you’re going to be offered as many savings is when you get your old age pensioner discount. So read these thrifty tips to learn how to make the most of your student discount now. Do you need it? First, you need to ensure you are buying what you need and not just buying for the sake of proudly proclaiming, “I saved £1.20 on my new novelty rabbit ear shaped salad serving spoons!” (Or insert your own equally pointless product.) Obviously, we students all like to think… more

AJ’s advice – rejection

AJ's Advice

Rejection comes in all shapes and forms. It leaves us feeling inadequate, frustrated, and quite frankly just generally rubbish. Rejection can be the centre point of a lot of negativity, and is often the reason that people don’t try new things, don’t apply for new jobs and limit themselves to the same thing for the rest of their lives – they’re afraid of being rejected. Fear of rejection is something that stunts our progress, and after all, if you’re not rejected then you can’t really move on, can you? The thing about rejection is that it can come from virtually anywhere. Unsuccessful university applications, unsuccessful job applications, unsuccessful relationships (serious or not) – everything. But the fact that rejection appears… more

AJ's Advice

First of all, before I get into this week’s column, I just want to apologise for missing last week. Needless to say, this week I’m back on form and writing again! The last couple of weeks have been so busy it’s crazy. I’ve had some good news: my creative coursework doesn’t need changing after a first draft! Yay! But I’ve also had some not-so-good news regarding what I wrote about in AJ’s Advice – week eight (if you want specifics, you can visit my blog here to find out more). But we’re past all of that now, so let’s get into this. There’s nothing harder than trying to keep up with life sometimes, right? But you can make everything a lot… more
