15 things to know for results day 2012
| August 15, 2012 | Posted by Amy Proudfoot under lifestyle |
This is an updated version of the article I wrote for results day 2011; after the great feedback last year I hope that it can again be helpful to you all. So, here are my top 15 points for results day 2012. Before the day 1. Make sure you go to results day with ID (you may need it to receive your results) and your UCAS Track login details – there are reasons why you may need them below. 2. This year UCAS has removed the Track app for Apple devices (not a huge loss in my opinion – it just crashed constantly for me last year), and instead it is launching a new mobile site, so if you’re looking… more
AJ’s advice – results day
| August 11, 2012 | Posted by Alaa Jasim under AJ's Advice |
Yep, here it comes. The results day chat. How insecure are we feeling about our results? Very. That’s why we’re here. We’re all banding together in our results-based insecurity to try to remember the things that we need to remember for results day. It’s okay, dear readers, we’re all going to be fine. And that’s just it, isn’t it? We’re all going to be fine. So what do we need to remember for results day? Well, here we go: Know what you’re doing Make sure you’re in the right place at the right time. This year, results day is on August 16th and results will be available from 09:00. Make sure you keep checking UCAS Track, which will be available… more
AJ’s advice – anxiety
| August 4, 2012 | Posted by Alaa Jasim under AJ's Advice |
Anxiety. That thing everyone hates and that everyone has felt. That thing a lot of students may now be feeling in the tense lead up to the A-level results day – I know, I had to mention the “R” word. I didn’t want to do it (trust me, I’m dreading results day as much as the next person) but I think it probably is the major cause of anxiety in students in Britain right now. Those emails from UCAS hardly help, do they? The problem is, anxiety can affect you pretty badly. I’m not saying that results day-induced nerves will necessarily be causing you anxiety so potent it is literally debilitating, but it’s still not very fun and is liable… more
AJ’s advice – patience
| May 20, 2012 | Posted by Alaa Jasim under AJ's Advice |
We have all had those days where we hate the world and everything in it, and nothing seems to move fast enough. There are always times when you just want to get something over with so you can just go home and do something more fun. Not nearly enough of us (often, myself included) are patient enough, and a lot of us can be short-tempered and perhaps a little irritable. Being patient – becoming patient – can be pretty important in a world full of people that need help, or that are just generally irritating. Maybe it’s watching that damn painting dry, or waiting for results: patience is a life skill and a virtue, and we could all stand to… more
Premier League preview: 13-18 March

After the preview for March 10th -12th, I am back again to cast my expert eye over the upcoming fixtures in the mighty Premier League. First up, a little overview of the events of last weekend: Game Actual Score My Prediction Bolton vs QPR 2-1 4-2 Aston Villa vs Fulham 1-0 2-1 Chelsea vs Stoke 1-0 3-0 Sunderland vs Liverpool 1-0 1-1 Wolves vs Blackburn 0-2 1-0 Everton vs Tottenham 1-0 1-4 Man Utd vs West Brom 2-0 1-1 Swansea vs Man City 1-0 0-3 Norwich vs Wigan 1-1 0-0 Arsenal vs Newcastle 2-1 4-3 Not bad – no perfect scores, but five correct results which is pleasing. One thing to note for my next set of predictions is that I… more
AJ’s advice – exam results
| March 10, 2012 | Posted by Alaa Jasim under AJ's Advice |
All over the country, people received resit and January exam results this week. Sometimes that little brown envelope can be the most daunting thing in the world; I’ve had to open that envelope for other people before because they didn’t want to do it themselves. As well as being elating, results day can also be devastating, especially if you’ve worked really hard and to no avail. Getting a lower grade than you hoped can be a real downer, and can really upset people. Even though it’s easier said than done, the key is to take it as a learning curve. Don’t let results day get you down. Here are my top tips for dealing with it: Get it over with… more
Premier League preview: 26-27 November

Saturday Stoke vs Blackburn (12:45) It’s going to be a really tough Christmas period for Tony Pulis. Stoke are excelling in Europe but their Premier League form is suffering as a result, and they have to maintain their famously strong home form if they are to continue to sit comfortably in mid-table. They conceded soft goals at the Britannia against QPR last weekend to make it three losses on the bounce in all competitions for Pulis’ side. QPR did ride their luck last weekend, but Potters made it far too easy for them. Pulis will be expecting a response from his players but I have a feeling that their poor run of form could continue into the new year. Undoubtedly… more
Abort, Retry, Fail? Episode 15

I’m not quite sure where this went. I ran out of inspiration, I think. This strip actually came from our own Amy Proudfoot, so thanks to her for the idea. Other then that, I love drawing Harry Potter-themed comics. I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s just my minuscule Harry Potter obsession. Who knows? In other news, Deus Ex: Human Revolution is out, and appears to be doing pretty damn well. I’d like to know from people who have played it if it’s worth getting, because it certainly piques my interest. Also, BioWare’s dev-team are now letting fans vote on another aspect of the female Commander Shepard default: the colour of her hair. Am I the only one who just thinks they should… more
