AJ’s advice – summer

And we’re back! After a couple of weeks of absence, AJ’s Advice has returned just in time for summer. A lot of us this year round will have a pretty long post-study leave holiday, and we may not really be sure how to spend it. Whatever you do though, make sure you enjoy it – get into the sunshine and make the most of it, because let’s face it, it’s not going to be there for long. For a good proportion of us, this might be the summer before we jet off to university, which is exciting and scary at the same time. Let’s all just have a good summer and enjoy it before the madness of going back to… more

ASBO: antisocial body odour, and why I pray for rain

Body odour

I am not going to lie, dear reader: I was becoming concerned. College was going well, work was good, exams were practically behind me, and my relationship status was looking pretty stable. Summer

Back the Folds In this land bright things disappear quickly As soon as they come. They dot the grey landscape Like paint-drops on canvas by a careless artist, Overturning the balance; rupturing As simple chaos will do everything it touches. Words of summer do not exist here. Warm days and things are concepts In a fragile mind incapable of holding Anything hotter than numb ice. Intimacy Does not exist. Lust is a luxury But here it is a necessity, a byproduct Of keeping the heart going. We love the warm months. We strive for them In this frozen wasteland. We are sick Of these pockets of cold flash-freezing Patches of homes like turbulence But all we do is howl like… more

Singles for summer

Rizzle Kicks

I’ve been trying to listen to a lot of radio this summer – and by summer, I mean the last 3 to 4 months – to pick up some new awesome tunes that encompass the gorgeous feeling of this lovely summer weather we’re having (most of the time), and are just feel good songs. I’ve picked 4 singles, which have come out fairly recently, and, in my opinion, tick all the boxes for a wicked summer track. Here they are: Down Down Down by Charlie Simpson When I first heard that this song was by ex-Busted star Charlie Simpson I expected something rock-pop and quite trashy, and so I got a nice surprise when I realised that he was capable of producing some… more
