Premier League preview: 11-14 May 2013

Saturday 11th May 2013 Aston Villa vs Chelsea (12:45) Aston Villa have completed what looks like being a great escape from relegation with two fantastic back to back wins against fellow struggling sides Norwich and Sunderland. The confidence of their young side should be sky high now, and I fully expect them to take the game to Chelsea in this the only game on Saturday. Chelsea will be looking to this game to pick up 3 points that would practically guarantee them Champions League football next season, and anything other than a win will put massive pressure on their side in their final game against high-flying Everton. Prediction: 2-2 Sunday 12th May 2013 Stoke vs Tottenham (13:30) Tottenham here have… more

Saturday 6th April 2013 Reading vs Southampton (12:45) Reading’s abysmal form continues after their 4-1 loss against Arsenal, this defeat makes it 6 in a row now, and relegation seems unavoidable. The away side, Southampton have taken one more step towards safety after beating Chelsea 2-1, so will be confident of a result here. Both teams have something to play for here, and this in my opinion is Reading’s last chance. Prediction: 2-3 Norwich vs Swansea (15:00) Swansea have lost 3 in a row now in the league, if they go one better and lose this game, it will be their worst streak in the league all season. This is obviously something they will want to avoid, so I fully… more

Saturday 30th March 2013 Sunderland vs Man Utd (12:45) Man Utd currently are 15 points clear at the top of the table with 9 games left to go and so aren’t far away from wrapping up the title. Sir Alex Ferguson and all the Man Utd fans would like to see the title guaranteed sooner rather than later and a nervy end to the season is not what they want. Sunderland fans will be relieved to know that Man Utd have a cup game on Monday, so will most likely be fielding a weakened side. Even then, I believe the away side will be too strong for the home team who are on a run of 7 games without a… more

Saturday 9th March 2013 Norwich vs Southampton (15:00) Southampton will be looking at this game as one they can win as they attempt to avoid relegation. Norwich themselves are also not safe yet, so would like to punish a Southampton side who have lost their last two matches. Norwich have a strong home record and don’t concede or score many despite having some good attacking players. I expect this to be a real battle, but one in which the home side will come out on top. Prediction: 2-1 QPR vs Sunderland (15:00) QPR managed to win their last game and will be looking to make it two in a row after this game. Sunderland have lost 3 of their last 4,… more

Saturday 2nd March 2013 Chelsea vs West Brom (15:00) Chelsea have had a bad run in the league recently, winning only 2 of their last 6 games, with 2 losses also happening. Pressure will be on the team and manager in this game, due to getting pushed into 4th last weekend, and being only 2 points off Arsenal in 5th. West Brom won their last 2 league games, but I feel their luck has run out, and a Chelsea team full of world class players should comfortably win here. Prediction: 3-0 Everton vs Reading (15:00) Both these teams are fighting for something major this season, the only difference being the end of the table at which the fight is happening. Everton… more
Premier League preview: 26th December 2012

Wednesday 26th December 2012 Everton vs Wigan (15:00) Everton have drawn the 2nd most amount of games this season, yet still see themselves in 5th which is great for them. The home side have lost only 2 games all season, and not one at home, so things don’t look good for too much of an upset here. Wigan only just lost their last game, against Arsenal, and it was quite harsh also, so they might be looking to get the points they feel they deserved here. Prediction: 1-1 Fulham vs Southampton (15:00) Southampton have a shocking away record, losing 6 and winning only 1. This favours Fulham, as it should allow them to get a home win to give them… more

Saturday 22nd December 2012 Wigan vs Arsenal (12:45) Wigan find themselves in the bottom 3 this weekend, and will be wanting to climb out as soon as possible, to avoid a really tough battle to stay up. Their home performances haven’t been too great and they will be wanting to convert some of their draws to wins, however this game is unlikely to see them get any points. Arsenal have the third best goal difference in the league, compared to Wigan’s 3rd worst, so I can see this game getting messy, much like Arsenal’s game against Reading did on Monday. Prediction: 0-4 Man City vs Reading (15:00) Man City are currently 6 points off of top place, and if they… more

My last set of predictions saw me get again only 4 correct results (one of which was a perfect score), this is poor, but I think it is due to so many upsets, with Chelsea, Arsenal and West Brom all losing. This week I am going to try something new, and predict many more games but not write about each game. Instead I will have a paragraph talking about the league overall. Barclays Premier League 8th December Arsenal 2-1 West Brom Aston Villa 1-1 Stoke Southampton 2-1 Reading Sunderland 0-1 Chelsea Swansea 2-0 Norwich Wigan 0-1 QPR 9th December Man City 2-1 Man Utd Everton 1-1 Tottenham West Ham 1-0 Liverpool 10th December Fulham 1-0 Newcastle 11th December Sunderland 1-0 Reading My… more

My predictions for the games on Tuesday and Wednesday (27th and 28th) were again not great. I got 4 correct results, 2 of which were perfect scores. Here are my predictions for the upcoming games. Saturday 1st December 2012 West Ham vs Chelsea (12:45) West Ham have lost their last 2 league games, even though they were games they were expected to lose, a loss of any kind isn’t good for morale. Chelsea are yet to win under their new manager and have taken part in two 0-0 draws. I can’t see Chelsea not scoring for a third consecutive game due to their attacking players, however, West Ham have been doing well at home, losing only 1 of 7 games, so I think an… more

As the table makes clear, I got 2 results right and 0 perfect scores! This is my worst round ever, and is atrocious. Here is my write up for the midweek games – perhaps I will give some reasonable predictions this time. Tuesday 27th November 2012 Sunderland vs QPR (19:45) This will be Harry Redknapp’s first game in charge of QPR having watched them lose 3-1 at the weekend against Man Utd. It will be tough for him to get QPR performing as they should with their great players after such a long bad spell, but I think this is a winnable game. Sunderland come into this off a 4-2 home thumping at the hands of West Brom, so will want to… more
