MacBook Pro with Retina display

It’s the Apple edition of TSR on tech, with the WWDC keynote on Monday dominating the news cycle for the rest of the week. There were other goings-on, which we have duly reported on: cuts at Nokia, a rejected appeal for Assange, some important security updates; but all eyes were on San Francisco for Apple’s announcements about hardware updates, the new MacBook Pro with a Retina display, OS X Mountain Lion, and iOS 6. For once it has been a generally positive week in tech, with good news on ACTA (i.e. bad news for ACTA) and an outcome to the Google-Oracle Java suit that will have developers everywhere cheering. There are also some nice announcements from Facebook, a slight increase in momentum for Do Not Track, exciting event announcements from Apple and Google, and several product launches and releases. According to figures given by Apple, Mac sales have now outpaced the PC market for 5 years and 73% of these sales… more

WWDC

The Worldwide Developers Conference, or WWDC, is Apple’s annual event for talking to developers and showcasing their latest software developments. As usual the company’s shroud of secrecy has been lifted only at the very last moment, but with just one week to go we finally have a press release with some information about what to expect; until now, nobody even knew what time the conference would begin. The statement, released May 31st, confirms that WWDC will focus on three main topics: Lion, the eighth version of Mac OS X; iOS 5, the upcoming version of Apple’s mobile operating system; and a mysterious, hitherto unconfirmed service known only as iCloud. There will also be an opening keynote presented by CEO Steve… more
